About Fonts

“Safwat” is a display font, inspired by a Downtown particular shop sign that sells shoes in downtown Cairo carrying the name Safwat. The sign was characterized by a geometric design based on basic shapes, and most likely created in the mid-eighties by the interior designer as a part of the architectural design of the shop front.

Safwat signifies a period when a need for an experimental and modern approach in Arabic lettering arose, with no consideration of the Arabic script grammar or any calligraphy reference.

The typeface is bold with rounded body shapes, sharp endings, closed counters and with a variation of dots alignment.
