“Seliman” was inspired by Downtown’s pop writings culture, primarily by a shop's front sign named “Seliman.”
The special characteristics of the sign’s type were provocative enough to design a complete typeface from that sign. It is characterized by a slight latinaised italic form contrasting the nature of Digital Arabic typefaces. Thick and sectioned baseline, with a bold, feeling, and balanced with rounded forms.
“Seliman” is a display font, and can be described as a bit of fun, folkloric, and vernacular Egyptian inspired font. Meant to fit within the visual culture of Cairo’s streets, ideal for an Egyptian pop culture context.
